Projects

A selection of some of the projects that i have developed and helped grow into mature, commercially succesful products.

Odessa

Odessa sorter – image copyright Pharmaned

This project is a (re)development of all embedded software and electronic hardware(PCBs) in an Odessa prescription sorter. This machine is a semi-automatic sorter for prescription drugs for pharmacies. This sorter guides the process of sorting individual packaged medicin into complete supscriptions, through a workflow that is monitored by controlled lighting and motion sensors.

For this product, Fiers-SOC has developed the embedded software that controls the motion sensors which report placing of product packages, and controls the RGB lighting that provides feedback. Also, the PCBs and electronic hardware were part of this project.

After the redesign, the Odessa sorter worked more reliably than before, and my customer was particularly happy about the production costs, that were less than half of the original.

Techniques used:Technieken: ARM microcontrollers, Embedded C++, PCB design.

PILS – Pharmax intelligent labelling system.

PILS is an extension module for a medicin robot. It enables guaranteed correct labeling of products suspended by that robot. The PILS system contains of a proxy/server, situated between the robot and its controlling software, which registers the actions of the robot and stores these actions in a database. Several PILS clients connect to this proxy/server, each client controls a label printer that immediately produces the correct labels, at the drop site where the packages are placed by the robot.

PILS enhances the reliability of deliveries, by almost completely eliminating ny possibility of human error. The project was later extended with connections/drivers for several different brands of robots.

Techniques used: Windows desktop PCs, C++, QT.
